The Gamma Phi chapter was established in 1929, 14 years after SMU was founded.
- First began when 3 colonizers and 24 pledges became the local group called Gamma Kappa.
- During the time of KKG installation at SMU, there were 1,371 men and 1,121 women students and 152 faculty members.
- As we are today, Kappa's were known for their involvement with student activities, being honoraries, "sweethearts", all-around young women, and hosting successful parties.
