Mission Statement

"Kappa Kappa Gamma is an organization of women, which seeks for every member throughout her life bonds of friendship, mutual support, opportunities for self-growth, respect for intellectual development, and an understanding of and an allegiance to positive ethical principles."

Symbols and Insignia

Symbols are outward and visible signs representing abstract ideas and beliefs. We recognize them as conveying ideas, but, at the same time, they allow for personal interpretation.

Perhaps most important is the fact that symbols are another aspect of Kappa that only Kappas share, uniting its members in a closer bond of friendship and understanding.

The Badge

The Badge:

The "golden key" is the badge for Kappa Kappa Gamma and is worn only by initiated members.

The New Member Pin

The New Member Pin:

The pin is worn by new members during the new member period. It is surrendered when you are initiated. It was adopted in 1914.

Flower

Flower:

The fleur-de-lis is Kappa's flower because it combines the two blues of Kappa into one flower.

Owl

Owl:

The owl symbolizes wisdom and is the bird of Minerva, the Goddess of Wisdom.

Jewel

Jewel:

The sapphire is the symbol of truth, sincerity and constancy. It's the gem of autumn, when Kappa was born.

Colors

Colors:

The light blue and dark blue are described as the "soft velvety blue approaching the cornflower in shade," also described in the sapphire and fleur-de-lis. These are recognized as the "blue of the sky and the sea."

Coat-of-Arms

Coat-of-Arms:

Kappa’s Coat-of-Arms combines the well-known symbols of Kappa Kappa Gamma. It includes the key, the Greek letters, the new-member pin, the fleur-de-lis, the owl and the two blues.
